Peter, I agree with you and try to build all our charts & graphs so they can be managed through a CMS rather than by generating a static image file.
In addition to the libraries you mentioned above, WordPress folks can find free plugins, too. We created one specifically for pharma product pipelines, but the basic idea can be applied to all sorts of infographics.
